Shire Secrets!

Ok so maybe not so secret – but 4 hours from Norfolk where I’ve recently moved lies my home town in SHROPSHIRE.

As I grew up here, I feel I have a rounded opinion that makes my blog a relevant source for looking where to eat.

So amongst all the fields, let me take you to my favourite country pub called…

1. THE FOX at Chetwynd Aston; a great family pub with an incredible beer garden! Just as I didn’t think it was well known my best friend and I bumped into Sol Campbell the other week;

Soon to be married…

Here’s a shot from when we spent 8 hours one hot Summer outside The Fox

Always come back for Christmas meals – the Turkey roast never fails!

2. The Woodbridge in Ironbridge positioned near the river – another chain of The Fox

And around the corner is Ironbridge centre which has character through it’s cobbled street and river running along the side of the road.

3. Now the best tea and cake place you HAVE to stumble upon in Ironbridge is Queenies.

Similar to the The Fox and The Woodbridge, Brunning & Price’s slightly more “posher” version is based in the next county of Staffordshire, which is called…

4. …The Swan with Two Necks. Also featuring a lovely modern interior design and outdoor beer garden, this place is ideal for all seasons.

The Thai red curry needs to be tried and make sure to add that chilli in, otherwise it could risk tasting slightly bland.

 A snapshot of a casual trio dessert one Sunday afternoon;

And the Salmon en croute always delivers;

Again in Staffordshire, a popular place where we had our high school prom is…

5. …Weston Hall; a magnificent Manor House which is an absolute must if ever in the area.

A snapshot of the baked Camembert…

And the best warm home made jam scones I have ever tasted – this was the day I got into red wine…

If you’re lucky you may come across some lamas in the garden also 😉

Mussels to die for…

Love a Winter stew;

And will always love this place for Christmas Cocktails on cold December nights 🙂

6. The Armoury in Shrewsbury is my favourite place back in SHROPSHIRE! It also has a little outside seating area for a sunny day.

Not to mention…

7.Romolos next door…

Turning 24…

Great cocktails and Lobster linguine when I last dropped in!

8. Shrewsbury classics  continue at The Libertine;

Delicious home-made soup above!

9. House of the Rising Sun – Modern Australian cuisine with Pacific Rim tastes and European cooking tradition. If you like SUSHI, then this is the place for you.

Celebrating my eldest brother’s birthday, we had a feast to say the least 😉

10. Not far from the House of the Rising Sun in Shrewsbury, lies Cromwells.

Fantastic for it’s Mussels in a creamy white wine sauce in a small beautiful outside terraced garden.

11. Weston Park in Shropshire served the most fantastic food at a wedding we attended last Summer – this place is also known for the famous V Festival located in the ground.

Going that bit further out from Shropshire & Staffordshire is the place “where the beautiful people go”…

12.The Crown at Wergs.

Delicious food and a lovely candlelit feel to the place. An excellent suggestion for a first date 😉

13. Similar chain in Stone, Staffordshireshire’s “The Wayfarer” never fails. Great place for your best friend to announce she’s engaged…

14. The Sutherland Arms – a small country pub in Tibberton (home town :)) which does just the job for a Christmas meal with the fam :):)

Again sticking to the Midlands our most fantastic meal as bridesmaids on celebrating our best friend getting engaged…

15. The Plough and Harrow- Generous portions of Seafood linguine all around!

One more from the Midlands which is where another friend’s hen do took place…

16. Moddershall Oaks – brilliant food and an excellent spa day!

17. Just want to slot in another Midlands one – Best Beef and Duck tasted at Teppanyaki in Birmingham…

18. And here’s a quick snapshot of Fischer’s Baslow Hall in Derbyshire;

One very impressive Cheesecake coming up…

19. The Three Horse Shoes – the night before my friend’s wedding we had the best carvery and even sampled a fantastic afternoon tea at the spa next door;

20. The Ashes – also based in Leek, my best friend’s actual wedding took place at this beautiful venue and the food did not fail.

This well-cooked chicken breast wrapped in bacon with mash was served after delicious salmon fish cakes for starter. Not to mention ending on a fabulous mix of desserts;

21. The Fitzherbert Arms – another one in Staffordshire and a great place for our 15 year reunion from SGS;

Service was average but the venue and food massively made up for it. Fish & Chips and the Fish Stew being a popular amongst us ladies;

This is a great spot for home cooked, flavoursome and wholesome food.
