Altrincham Market has got to be recommended as one of the most exciting places to eat, drink and soak up a cosy atmosphere within the South Manchester area.
Being my recent hometown of 2018, exploring independent restaurants & chic bars around this town has been a real foodie adventure from Summer bites outdoors to cosy Winter nights now on the countdown to Christmas.
Situated in the New Market Square, the Market House is home to 10 independent quality food operators – of which the Italian styled ‘La Cucino’ is one of my personal favourites. The food market also consists of the ‘Honest Crust’ wood fired pizza place; the ‘Wolfhouse Kitchen’ (fantastic bakery); ‘Tender Cow’ (main focus on the flat iron steak); ‘Great North Pie’ (notorious for their multi award winning pies); and dessert places such as ‘Sam Joseph Chocolates’ (hand made chocolates & desserts) and finally Market House Coffee.
Altrincham Market also offers a couple of drinking places for alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) beverages such as ‘Jack in the Box’ which is great for craft beers; alternatively you can visit ‘Reserve Wines’ which sells high quality wines to either drink-in or take away.
‘Reserve Wines’ also offers a fantastic array of gin based cocktails of which the ‘Edinburgh gin’ is the most popular. To accompany the Edinburgh gin, my best friend and I soon came across the Seasonal Mediterranean stand ‘La Cucina’ to trial out the pasta and gnocchi – seated just outside before it starts to get too cold!!
The gnocchi balls were simply delicious and coated with a drizzle of olive oil and Parmesan shavings. Although it appears there’s not much on the plate from my image below, I can clarify the portion sizes leave you feeling satisfied.
Now on to my second Italian styled stand – ‘Honest Crust’ pizza, renowned for their flavorsome toppings, all the pizzas are cooked on an open wood-burning fire; always an authentic touch to the style of cooking.
Every time I’ve visited this stand, I’ve noticed the menu offers something a little different which is great to experience. With the wide array of ingredients there’s an option for everyone. Upon this occasion, I went for the four cheeses, olives & wilted spinach pizza – picture below says it all!
Now for another independent food feature on a different visit to the Market with some friends visiting from Norwich! In a nutshell, we all had a sweet tooth as we hit the later hours of the evening and went for the chocolate profiteroles with cream custard at ‘Sam Joseph Chocolates’. These were extremely tasty and a real crowd-pleaser.
Let’s end this post on a quick shout out to the Brewery & Brewtap at ‘Jack in the Box’. As their Twitter caption sums up what there is to offer – “6 cask pumps, 8 keg lines, and plenty of bottled beer'”.
After my trip to Bruges last Christmas, I was delighted to discover the cherry beer was available at this brewery in Altrincham; again very sweet and went down a treat 🙂
I look forward to returning to Altrincham Market for trialing out the Great North Pies on my next visit.
