It’s here guys! I’m delighted to share with you the latest launch of The Yew Tree’s NEW British Menu – one of my fave country pubs located in the heart of Cheshire (Bunbury, near Tarporley).
Growing up in the country, I’ve always been a huge supporter of local village pubs, especially those with a rustic, warm & cosy feel; The Yew Tree’s 19th-Century Free House fits this description superbly with wonderful interior features that include exposed wooden beams and glowing fireplaces – just how I like it.
Serving classic British food sourced from local produce, this restaurant offers a dish for everyone. Once reading about The Yew Tree’s new Head Chef, Ben Ackland, I was thrilled to receive an invite from Luya Agency to come along and trial out the restaurant’s new menu at the launch event last Thursday, 21st March.
As you can see from the photograph above, it was a nice touch for us Bloggers to have a in-depth, personal chat with Ben himself, who took the time out of his busy schedule in the kitchen to make an intro to each of the social influencers invited to the event.
With Ben’s wealth of restaurant experience, within iconic establishments such as The Ivy and Soho House, it was fascinating to also hear of his travels working in France for the past few years and now having recently returned back to the UK, eager to inspire The Yew Tree’s dishes from the tips & tricks he’d picked up from cooking around the World.
Welcomed with a glass of chilled, bubbling prosecco, bustling atmosphere and live acoustic music, I just knew it was going to be a fantastically lavish launch and all-round superb evening.
From homemade pies & sausage rolls to the ‘real deal’ gastro burgers, and sticky toffee pudding served with homemade honeycomb, the canapés just kept on coming.
Pictured below, here’s the classic Bunbury Burger – a smoky maple bacon cheeseburger, toasted brioche bun, burger sauce & chef’s onion ring to top it off. Just the kind of classic, delicious comfort food you need after a long day at work…
Oh, and obviously I had to bring my absolute bestie as my plus one who just happens to live nearby. After having a taster of the new menu we were both ecstatic to find this venue to be our new ‘go to’ place – both being huge foodies and all.
Now, and finally, on to my favourite taster of them all (slightly bias being half Scottish) – introducing the Haggis Sausage Roll served with a delicious home-made mayonnaise. As you can see from the following picture, these canapes weren’t exactly ‘taster’ portions but I just couldn’t help but reach for another one; Yum!
Other canapes included a chicken and mushroom vol au vent with truffle – a real crowd-pleaser. Other food samples consisted of ‘mini’ Yew Tree Beef & Weetwood Ale Pies which come with buttered peas & kale with gravy; highly flavoursome.
The lighter canapés included a seasoned egg on bruscetta and Pan fried Scallops; the scallops were accompanied with crispy black pudding smoked bacon and baked apple jam which I found melted in the mouth, but do think this one’s for more of a particular palate for those who aren’t huge seafood fans.
Just as I felt I had devoured enough savoury dishes, the dessert tasters came out as a very welcomed arrival and were served to all of the guests at the event.
Sticky Toffee Pudding served with butterscotch sauce and homemade honeycomb ice cream – the perfect sweet end to a lovely menu exemplifying the new Head Chef’s take on British pub classics.
So there you have it – The Yew Tree’s new menu is out & it’s no secret; the ideal place to enjoy a cask ale or drink from the enviable wine list, accompanied by an array of tasty, locally sourced & seasonal British dishes all served within a cosy, country setting.
