The Ivy

The sparkle & glimmer around a special evening at The Ivy has finally happened! After hearing about the Manchester opening in this swanky establishment, I could not wait to get a date in the diary for trying out the traditional English dishes & cocktails in the sophisticated chic atmosphere.

The Ivy Cafés are most famously located around London and renowned for their chic-style surroundings; I was therefore excited to now have an Ivy Grill and Brasserie a little closer to home. Though I’m surprised The Ivy in Spinningfields has now officially been open since the end of November last year, so I do admit I’m a little late to the party on this one…

Located in the heart of Manchester (Spinningfields), this Ivy lives up to the vision of the London chic-styled venues. Within the premises, The Ivy has two private dining rooms; The Dalton and The Geisha Room. The white & grey marble tiled flooring works well with the mismatch of the vintage dining chairs and floral fabric, which intrinsically all add to the glamour within the sophisticated, casual yet polished setting.

The Ivy Asia & Bar is The Ivy’s second restaurant (in addition to The Brasserie) which is located on the second floor, and as you can see in the image below, the restaurant is illuminated with an eye-opening, fluorescent green patterned floor. 

 

 

The Brasserie is where we ended up eating (as opposed to The Ivy Asia) on the first floor and as a large table of 12, I just knew we were in for a treat after studying the enticing menu.

Starters

We tried out several starters on the menu – always best to order several dishes for sharing when there’s a big group of people.

So here’s a few of my favourites below (again, I’d suggest ALL need trying out):

  • Salt-crusted sourdough bread with salted butter, £3.95
  • Truffle arancini – Fried Arborio rice balls with truffle cheese, £5.50
  • Zucchini fritti – Crispy courgette fries with lemon, chilli and mint yoghurt, £5.75.

The starters were all complemented well with a chilled glass of Champagne.

The Mains

With a ‘warmed up’ appetite, I could not wait to dig into the main course.

I went for the Salmon and Asparagus; priced at £16.95, this dish consisted of Pan-fried salmon supreme with an asparagus tortellini and a Champagne sauce.

Oh, and placed just behind the Salmon in my photograph above lies the most delicious Truffle and Parmesan chips, which were ordered along with thick cut chips – the perfect side dish to go with fish & champagne.

My colleague went for The Ivy’s classic Shepherd’s Pie – Slow-braised lamb leg with beef and Wookey Hole Cheddar potato mash. This was also priced fairly at £13.95.

There were other delicious fish dishes such as grilled sea bass fillet (£22.95) which consisted of smoked aubergine, tomato pesto and a tomato, olive, shallot and coriander dressing.

Depends on what you’re in the mood for but I’m feeling pretty bias towards the dish I had; the Pan-fried salmon supreme – a real must-have.

Now for the good stuff – DESSERT.

I think there’s a reason so many people empathise with this famous saying below;

DESSERTS IS STRESSED SPELT BACKWARDS.

Just when you thought the evening couldn’t feel any more fancy, I went for the Chocolate Bombe and the delivery was on point! The waiter presented this pudding by pouring the hot salted caramel sauce over the melting chocolate bomb which was accompanied with vanilla ice cream and a honeycomb centre.

 

I also tried a mouthful of my friend’s Creme Brulee which was a classic set vanilla custard with a caramelized sugar crust; another dish which did not fail to deliver.

 

And you can’t leave this place without having a photo in the famous stylist toilets…

All in all, The Ivy in Manchester sure lived up to it’s high expectations and I’d most definitively recommend booking yourself in for a table to celebrate a special occasion; whether a birthday, business meeting, date night or even an excuse to get dressed up & have a cocktail and high quality food with the girls!

I can’t wait to return and try out the Asia food next on the second floor at The Ivy Asia.
