20 Stories

It’s finally here! The full review on the glitz & glam of the fine dining eatery situated on the 19th floor of No.1 Spinningfields, 20 Stories.

With unparalleled 360-degree views of the Manchester skyline, I have to say I’ve been most looking forward to reviewing this chic place in particular, with all its positive buzz around town and of course, online.

And so when the invite arrived, I was delighted one fine lunch time to bring myself and other half along as my plus one; we were soon seated with the best views overlooking the fine city of Manchester.

Serving Modern British food, 20 Stories offers local produce, with fresh vegetables coming direct from the restaurants own farm in Cheshire and meat sourced from small suppliers throughout Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire nearby areas.

The large rooftop terrace is another key stand out feature of the venue which really keeps the liveliness and spectacular edge of 20 Stories going, a perfect setting for both a special occasion and cocktail night with the girls.

So why ‘20 Stories?

As with any story, there’s a start, middle and end… and behind 20 Stories (the restaurant), there are actually 20 stories! These stories consist of a combination of clues where the food on the menu comes from, customer demographics, the area and numerous points hinting around the originality of the restaurant.

Now let’s get straight to the menu! Revealed to us by our friendly host of the evening – the restaurant’s super engaging Italian Head waiter, Mirco, we were soon in awe of the wide array of delicious courses there were on offer.

Starters:

I always find the quality of bread soon reveals a restaurant’s standard of food; and when the warm fresh loaf came out, I just knew we’d be in for a real treat.

We were also greeted by a personal Sommelier who recommended a fine light White Wine, which was a perfect accompaniment to our fish starters to follow.

As a Scallop fan, I was confident in selecting the seared king Scallops, which came with cep, noilley prat & shaved autumn truffle as pictured below.

My guest selected the Hazelnut crusted squab pigeon breast, which was accompanied with Alsace bacon & confit cabbage. Two delicious dishes extremely well flavoured – a great start to our luxurious dining out lunch experience.

Mains:

Now for the more exciting part – the main courses.My partner selected the Cumbrian Lamb cutlet, being a true hearted great Lamb fan. Cooked pink, the Lamb was served with well seasoned peas, bacon & grilled gem lettuce.

Most looking forward to this course, I ordered the suggested Highland Venison, a course which did not fail to deliver.

Sides:

As recommended, it’s always best to keep simple yet effective when you already have a lot of flavour going on in your main dish. We therefore selected between the two of us the neutral (& healthy!) side dishes – the Tenderstem Broccoli and the Rocket & Parmesan side dish which was drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

Delicious! What next? …

 

With our waiter Mirco being Italian, he took a particular interest in our wedding plans once revealing Italy is our venue location of choice (…spoiler’s alert!) I always find it’s the little touches which showcase service going ‘above & beyond’, of which the next surprise was a great example of this…

Desserts:

You can’t not have chocolate fondant when this is on the menu… Well I can’t anyway! As sweet and satisfying as expected, my chocolate fondant came with vanilla ice cream and honeycomb – the perfect crunch to end the 3 course meal.

My fiance Nick went for the milk & honey parfait, which was served on top of a honey & yoghurt ice cream. Again, an unusual and delicious dessert which I’d thoroughly recommend.

The puddings above were washed down nicely with a Graham’s Port (originating from Porto – a Port stop of which we’ve actually visited earlier this year) and of course, a great view overlooking Manchester skyline.

As a further insight into 20 Stories, this eatery is part of a D&D London restaurant; a company which owns and operates 30+ leading restaurants in London, Leeds, Paris, New York and Tokyo. A little fact I hadn’t realised prior to visiting the establishment for a dining out experience.
